Strategies:
1) Win by Time - Have the most points at 2050 AD you can see who has the most points as numbers in the bottom right of the screen - Be larger and stronger then the other Civilizations do this by getting technologies and towns.
2) Be the first the a major military technology or unit - This allows you to conquer people until the other players get that unit - Choose paths to military technologies.
3) Balance your money and food - Make sure you don't run out of food or money while playing - get more food by building farms on town gathering spots with lots of bread symbols if your town is starving you can't train units. Get money by lowering your alchemy level and clicking wealth instead of training units. If you have 0 gold you be lowered to the correct alchemy level to keep you going. If that is 0% you won't be able to get technologies.
4) Choose one trading partner - Choose one trading partner and be in their religion and make them friendly with you allowing you to trade for what you want - self explanatory.
5)Don't think you can't win a war because you have less points then them YOU CAN!
6) Choose the right difficulty win on settler then work your way up.
7) Combat odds are odds I have won a battle with a 2% chance of victory before!
8) Don't be afraid to wasting units attacking a town when they won't win it weakens them and you might just get lucky!
9) Towns cost money to have but you need them because it lets you train more units and get technologies faster!
10) Losing a battle? Offer a peace treaty if you can't build a settler retreat him to a far place as a backup city.
11) Your enemy on single-player is not a human use that to your advantage they ARE a computer.

3) Hold out as long as you can.
4) Get Iron Working and try and get a mine on some Iron.
5) Don't let pillage it.
